This adaptation incorporates "mad scenes" from 4 Shakespearean tragedies, mixing and matching characters on the edge of mental breakdown. With faces painted white, the 7 actors travel freely between multiple roles―sometimes cross-dressed, sometimes switching roles. Featuring an alienation effect and a deconstructive approach, the play presents an intellectual challenge to the audience.

Abstract: The author analyzes the five plays in the “Shakespeare in Taipei” series and comments that the many recent Shakespeare plays performed in Taipei left little imprint on Taiwan theatre. The union of literature and little theatre seems to open up a new path for little theatre.
