This is a faithful adaptation with local and contemporary coloring. The mercantilist Venice-the real world-is framed by images of the Taipei stock market and banknotes in TWD. By contrast, the fantasy world of Belmont featuring surplus, leisure, and romance is visually timeless and exotic. While keeping Shakespeare intact, the play poses a reflection of contemporary society.

Abstract: NTU students perform roles older than their real age in The Merchant of Venice. They try hard to "act big" and make it easy for the audience to follow Shakespeare’s poetic lines. Jiu Jenn-rung's translation is faithful to the original. In this adaptation, the Cantonese accent and the Shandong dialect are used in comic scenes.
