This adaptation condenses the story into 10 scenes connected by a narrator, focusing on the shrew's psychology. The playwright-director downplays the themes of gender war, patriarchy, and economy, and emphasizes the power of love and tenderness, both between marital partners and among family members. The tamer's repentance significantly revises the original. Following the tradition of xiqu, the stage design is simple and fluid, with visible "prop men" as an organic part of the performance. Film techniques, such as rewind and flashbacks, are also employed.

Abstract: The play omits many elements in its source--the dream, the play-within-the-play, etc. The primary idea is that love is the elixir for people to get along with each other and it is love that tames everything.
