Lin Hsiu-Wei graduated from Chinese Culture University with a BA degree in Dance. In 1986, Ms. Lin received a Fulbright Scholarship; she was invited to the American Dance Festival where she performed the solo Nu-Wa . She then conducted research and study in New York. Upon returning to Taiwan in 1987, Ms. Lin was the choreographer and principal dancer, with her husband Wu Hsing-Kuo, in the “Myth of the Late 20th Century.” This brought her to found Tai-Gu Tales Dance theatre with a group of young dancers. The first production in December 1988 was The Life of Mandala. Then followed the productions of Compass (1990), The Ritual of Deities (1991), The Back of Beyond (1991), the first version of Obsession of the Stone (1993), the second version of Obsession of the Stone (1994), and the first version of Fairies Garden (1996), Life and Light (2001).

Since 1991, every year her troupe has been invited to perform in Europe and received critical acclaims. Her focus is on the rhythm which comes directly from the inner source of the human body. She is constantly trying to expand this rhythm into an expression of natural and universal feelings. Through the years, Tai-Gu Tales has found its own special character.

She is also a producer for the Contemporary Legend Theatre. In 1994, Ms. Lin directed Medea based on the Greek tragedy and was invited to perform in 1996 Singapore International Arts Festival. She worked with internationally renowned director Richard Schechner in CLT’s 1995 production Oresteia.
