Abstract：This essay compares the original Macbeth and the 2003 production of Sonata of the Witches: The Macbeth Verses, plus a comment on the 2007 performance, and discusses the reasons why director Po-Shen Lu emphasizes the witches, his aesthetics, and the questions the play raises for Taiwan theatre.
