The Hakka Musical - My Daughter’s Wedding, adopted from the famous comedy The Taming of the Shrew, has abandoned Shakespeare’s 16th century ethics which might not be agreed by modern audiences, and was rewritten for a localized background in today’s Hsinchu, Taiwan. A retired Hakka physician, Fuk-tshun Liu, was desperate that his two daughters’ weddings wouldn’t seem to happen. Li-kiun, the elder daughter who was hard to get along with, has decided not to marry anyone; Li-ngiet, the younger one who has a long line of men waiting, wouldn’t get married prior to her elder sister according to Hakka traditions. Following relatives’ suggestion, Dr. Liu held an interview to choose a husband for Li-kiun. A muscleman lu-ka Tsung passed the test, thus started a war between two strong-headed persons. In the end, lu-ka and Li-kiun’s hearts were joined by Hakka village Meinung’s beautiful landscapes and Hakka people’s kindness. Meanwhile, Li-ngiet has to choose her true love between Siin-i Ng, a romantic college student, and Kien-khioing Lai, a man who has a sincere commitment to love and marriage.
