Xi Zhi-gan / Adaptation
Acclaimed dramatist Xi Zhi-gan is a National Class One Playwright, Vice President of the Chinese Dramatic Literature Society, and Secretary of the Creative Committee of the Hubei Dramatists Association. Xi has already written over 20 full-length plays for the stage, which include national award winners The Promotion of Xu Jiujing, Zhang the Ointment Peddler, The Legend of the Medicine King Temple, The Breaking of the Primeval Age, Nirvana of the Beauty and Mi Fu the Painter of Xiangyang which have received the Wenhua Award for Best Play presented by the Chinese Dramatists’ Association under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture, the Cao Yu Drama Literature Award and a nomination for the National Award for Top Ten Most Outstanding Works for the Stage, and over ten productions which have been staged in Taipei, including Ying Yang River, The True Story of Ah Q, The Legend of the Condor Heroes, The Legend of Liu Hai, Butterfly Dream and Courtship of the Three Smiles. Other works of Xi include several Chinese opera television series and writings on drama theory.
