Abstract：Applying the theory of intercultural theatre, this paper examines how Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew was adapted into a Taiwanese opera by High Sun Taiwanese Opera Troupe. Employing gezaixi's theatrical conventions, the play contrast "bad woman, bad man" of old society with "lady and gentleman" in modem society. It also aims to compare the ideal images of both sexes in both societies.
